Deck complete, hull in progress

Building continues in Spain for 583
Deck complete (still in the mould)….

…while good progress with the hull…

You can see here that the gelcoat chosen for the hull is yellow. A light grey colour has been used for the deck as this doesn’t reflect as much as white - and is therefore easier on the eyes.
The next steps are to bond the deck and hull together (this week), followed by fitting out including adding all the electronics. We are currently looking at a completion date of last week of June.
Progress is good on other fronts too, including all the paperwork. A class number (583) has been allocated. Finding insurance is proving to be a problem as the main UK marine insurers don’t want to cover these boats. I can’t see why these boats are any different to sports boats - and besides - if we are higher risk - just suggest a higher premium or higher excess - but don’t say no! More on this in the future
ADRIAN: Hi Alex
Yellowfin looks great - I arrive in Tarragona on July 14th - will I arrive too late to see her? In addition to the electrical system & electronics what other gear will you have installed at the yard?

Hi Adrian,
Thanks for your comment.
Difficult question to answer elegantly. I hope you are too late to see her - as this means she will be heading towards the UK. However, she might still be in spain as we are waiting delivery of the mast….
The yard is doing all the bits and bobs that attach to the hull - such as outboard bracket, bilge pumps & mooring cleats. I don’t like making holes where they are not needed - so better to get it done well first off.
Other elements, including safety gear will be done in the UK (liferaft, epirb, active radar system)

EVAN: The hull looks bloody fantastic. How will it be rigged?

Hi Evan,
You asked how she will be rigged…… cafefully!
Actually its a pretty tall single mast - and a rotating bowsprit for use with asymetric spinnakers (instead of a conventional spinnaker pole - or a bowsprit that extends from the hull)… I will try to put some photos up of this component when Yellowfin comes to the UK as its fairly unique (but common in Mini Transat boats)
cheers
